Day Two

We spent Labor Day weekend in Salida with some of our dear friends. Wine festival, great hiking, great food, and so many laughs.

Dinner last night was a feast. Sometimes it's fun to celebrate for no reason at all. Today I clocked in at 127.0. The king crab didn't completely impress me but the crab cakes were out of this world (way more scallion than I am used to ~ and I loved the addition).

Stats from yesterday:

10,236 steps
3.99 miles
16 floors
2,093 calories
0 minutes of exercise
8 hours 54 minutes of sleep

Today I had a beautifully lazy morning, a little straightening up but mostly relaxing and good coffee drinking. Nate took Jake to his birthday party and I hung out with the older kids. I had a good plan in place ~ Watch the Eagles game at 10, then go for a run and cook a huge vat of chili. Only………..Luke had it wrong. The Eagles weren't playing at 10 (which was really 11), they were the second game, at 2:25. Gah! So, I told Alexa to play me some classical music, and Julia and I went to town chopping and talking as we put together chili. I use filet (beef) that I cube and sear, and ground turkey. Yellow onion, bell peppers, poblano peppers, corn, salsa, tons of ancho and chipotle and chili powder, oodles of garlic and olive oil, and eventually it all just kindov comes together.

After grazing through a breakfast of fresh palisade peaches (I thought Jersey had the market cornered on peaches…..I didn't know anything about the wonder of Colorado peaches), almonds and cashews, I did a bit of cleaning up, stripping beds, etc. After I got the chili going I turned it to a simmer to let the flavors meld and took off for a 6 mile run. The total workout was 65 minutes  as the walk up to the place where I start my run is STRAIGHT up hill, playing into the 64 flights of stairs that the run included (according to fitbit). A great shower, and I've committed myself to being in the horizontal position for as much of the rest of the day as possible. The kids are playing in the basement with neighborhood kids and Nate and I are watching the Jets and the Eagles. The Chili is delicious and, well, thats about it for the rest of the day. The Broncos won and it looks like my Eagles have a good chance of going 3-0 as our new QB is a wonderful surprise.

I took the time to write out my coming week/workouts. Though all I want to do is to be outside, I need to get into the gym more to get in more strength training/HIIT and even some spin. We all bought Mountain bikes when we moved here, and I need to work up those cycle muscles some more. With so many trails just feet from our home I've really enjoyed rediscovering a sport that I loved in my very early 20's.

Here is my trail buddy.

The week includes spin, hiit, sculpt, a dance class, two hikes, a long run with friends on WED and two pump classes (I quit pump a long time ago but this new gym does it in a really different and innovative way).

Tonight we are watching a new show we just discovered called "I Like Dick"………..apparently there has only been one episode out, anyone watching it?
