Over it.

Had my three month hip check up today.

My pain is worse than it was 4 weeks ago, sadly.

Something is wrong.

He fears that the pins are sticking out too far, creating bursitis. My actual hip feels fine, my pain is all down along my femur, actually about 2 inches below my incision. He can feel the clicking/pinging I'm complaining about with internal/external rotation, right along my femur/IT band. I can't sleep on my right side. I can't roll over on my right side, without searing pain. He blames my small stature (less fat to pad that screw), and my "hard bones" which prohibited him from getting the 9" compression screw in as far as he had hoped.

I don't know what to think. I cried.

I got two cortisone shotes and another prescription for Tramadol.

I'm going to Rothman for a second opinion, my Uncle is getting me an appointment with a hip specialist. I just sent off an email with my x-rays and my history.

I'm really down about all of this. I just can't believe that I'm back here, after all this damn time. I haven't worked out, but once, in three weeks. It aches and throbs, and when I can hear and FEEL it clicking over those pins it literally makes me nauseous.

  1. I am stunned and saddened for you, my friend. Wish there were something to say that could make things even minutely better for you. I continue to hold you in my thoughts and am hoping the second opinion yields a good solution. So sorry you are still dealing with this chronic pain and discomfort. It really cuts into the quality of life. :(

  2. Can they take the screws/plate out? Sorry if that's a silly question. My MIL had screws in her ankle that worked their way out and were removed. I am sure a hip/femur is much more involved.

  3. Not a silly question, that would be our option. It could be done in about 3 months, but is again a fairly big surgery. They go in through the same incision, and would have to remove everything. The holes would put me at increased risk of a break or fracture for several weeks, so I would be on very limited movement/very restricted. It could be done, but would again be a big deal. Which just kills me to think about. But, of course, is better than living in chronic pain. So, onward to a second opinion. :/. Thanks friend.

  8. Oh Melis, I am so sorry! I'm like 5 days late here, but my heart is aching for you. I wish it will/could be an easy fix for you. I think I told you that Cal ended up getting all the hardware taken out of his leg a few years back b/c of the issues you are describing. Hugs my friend!
